Simple ways to celebrate autumn

Home, Health & Beauty, LivingDeanne CapotostoComment

We can continue to enjoy living simply even as the seasons change. Here are some ways you can celebrate life's transition from summer to autumn.

Clothes

·       Add a scarf, jewelry or boots to transition your favorite outfit

·       Donate any summer clothes or shoes that you never wore this past summer

·       Organize your closet with fall outfits, shoes and accessories that you love and wear

Beauty

·       Try a new shade of lipstick in a warm color

·       Keep a small bottle of hand lotion in your purse to fight that cold-weather dry skin

·       A little bronzer on your cheekbones can give you a warm glow (even as that summer tan fades)

Home

·       Put away summer decorations

·       Decorate with fall plants and mums

·       Put away any patio furniture when it becomes too cold for you to sit outside

·      Change bedding to something warmer and fluffier, so you can keep cozy even with the windows open

Food

·     Attend a farmer’s market and cook with local seasonal fruits and vegetables

·       Try new autumn-inspired recipes

·       Bake for family and friends (my favorite for fall is pumpkin chocolate-chip bread...see the recipe below*)

 Exercise

·       Purchase a new fall workout outfit or jacket and continue exercising outdoors

·       Try something new and take advantage of trial memberships and classes

·      Use exercise videos indoors (you can check them out for free at your local library)

*Want to bake something delicious this fall? Here's my favorite fall-recipe... It's a special treat perfect for serving with a cup of tea. It's also great when it's wrapped up pretty and given to a friend.

D's Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Loaf

Mix in Bowl:

  • 3 cups Flour
  • 3 cups Sugar
  • 2 tsp. Baking Soda
  • ½ tsp. Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Ground Cloves
  • 1 tsp. All Spice
  • 1+ tsp. Cinnamon

Make a well in dry ingredients and add:

  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil (I use Canola oil)
  • 2/3 cup Water
  • 2 cups Canned Pumpkin (2 cans are a little more than 2 cups, but it is ok to use it all)
  • 1 pkg. Chocolate Chips (I prefer the mini chips)
  • Mix it all well!

Spray pans with PAM.  Makes 2 or more Loaf Pans.  Try cupcakes too!

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 5 minutes or until you insert a toothpick and it comes out clean.  (Cupcakes take less time.)

ENJOY!!
